Film is Done! Happy New Year!

Just wanted to let everyone know that the film is now officially done. I just picked up the last dubs from Post Factory NY yesterday. Mishel and the folks at Post Factory did an amazing job on the color correction and bump up to High Def! In addition, Ryan over at Bang Music NY did an incredible job on the sound mix. Pat's rants never sounded so good!

Over the next month we will be working on getting all the material for the DVD together, as well as the Soundtrack, and hopefully start getting stuff off to the dub house by the end of the month. We'll keep ya posted!

Happy 2011! We hope for big things happening with the film this coming year!

Change.org covers meal limit debate

The social activism site Change.org has reported on the meal limit. They've also started their own petition to get it repealed. Further evidence that this Gainesville story is quickly becoming a national issue.

Check out Change.org's report here.

Work in Progress Screening Tuesday 7/20 8:45pm

We will be showing a work-in-progress cut of the film as part of the...

Mickie Edwardson Memorial Work-in-Progress Screening

at the Hippodrome theater in Gainesville, Fl this coming Tuesday, 7/20, at 8:45pm. Nick, and hopefully Peter, will be there for a Q&A session after the film. Pat Fitzpatrick will be there in the flesh, and many of the other characters from the film will also be in attendance.

The film is fairly complete, but we are still tweaking some stuff. Elements of the new score will be in there, as well as a couple of new sequences. We are looking for audience feedback, as we work towards finishing everything up.

The event is being billed as free, so be sure to get there early enough to get a seat. We hope to see you there!

Update: Screening, SilverDocs, etc.

We showed a nearly-finished version of Civil Indigent to a packed house at the Documentary Institute's last ever (at UF at least) thesis film screenings on April 30. The audience loved it! We all had a great time.

Last week we traveled to to SilverDocs film festival in beautiful Silver Spring, Maryland where we had the opportunity to pitch our film to a panel of industry experts. It was very well received! Another great experience! Can't wait to go back!

Rough Cutting

So, we are moving along with our edit. We currently have a 53 min cut that has all of our major story elements in it. We are getting feedback, and continuing trying to trim and refine everything.

We are showing the rough cut to Pat for the first time today. If there are no posts after this, he has probably killed us.

No, he is very excited to see it, and I can't wait to see what his reaction.

In other news... the election.

(SPOILERS BELOW)

Pat did ok. He got 80 votes, or as he pointed out, 79 because he voted for himself. It came down to a runoff in both elections. Randy Wells vs Penny Wheat in the District 4 City Commissioner election, and Craig Lowe vs Don Marsh in the mayoral. The runoff election was yesterday. Randy won by a huge margin. Craig Lowe barely won... 35 votes over Marsh. It is going into a recount, but it looks like Lowe got it. Congratulations to the winners. Unfortunately, you know have to deal with Pat belittling you and your policies on a daily.

City Commission Meeting

Yesterday we had a great interview with City Commissioner Jack Donovan. He really gave us some great insight into the legislative perspective on the 130 Meal Limit issue. Tomorrow we might have a last minute shoot down at St. Francis House where we would get our own footage of the 130th person being turned away from being fed, as well as getting an interview from Kent Van, who is the director of St. Francis House. We are trying to get this material prior to the big City Commission meeting on Thursday the 18th. The City Comm will be addressing the 130 meal limit at that meeting, and on possibility is that there will be a suspension of the 130 limit while they instruct staff to investigate the issue. Also, David is traveling up to Starke tonight to film Pat protesting the scheduled execution of an inmate up at the State Prison. This is just yet another example of Pat's activism. Busy busy...

Busy Week

We are in full swing here over the past week.  We just completed shoots with Pat and his band (Gainesville Liberation Orchestra) having a band practice; Pat and the rest of the local candidates on UF's Plaza of the Americas talking with the students passing by; a great shoot with the Home Van making their rounds on Thursday; and a wonderful interview with Fr. John Gillespie, who is a prominent local rights activist in his own right.  Tomorrow, there is a big rally at the downtown plaza against the 130 meal limit.  Should be good.  Now if we could just find time to edit...

Let the Debates Begin

This evening marked the first of potentially six debates that the candidates for Gainesville's District 4 City Commission seat will participate in. It was a well contested, yet highly unanimated affair, with all of the candidates (including Pat) sticking to the script. There were no low blows, and no exchanges between any of the candidates. It was the first time that any of the Civil Indigent team has had the opportunity to hear Penny Wheat (the front runner in the race) speak, and she most definitely held her own. Ms. Wheat really knew how to work the crowd (the only candidate to leave her seat and venture out into the crowd to talk) but her answers all seamed a little rehearsed. Randy Wells did a great job and really kept up with Wheat on every question. Nathanial Sperling put in a really valiant effort in what proved to be his first public debate, only showing his nerves a few times. There was also an introduction of a fifth candidate to the mix this evening, Mason Alley, who showed an interest in the community and the issues, but lacked a gusto for the event. Pat was really in top form. He was the only candidate that connected with the audience, getting laughs at a few points, and did a great job of showing that he has a grasp of what the issues are in Gainesville. He was, of course, slanted in all of his answers towards talking about the poor and the homeless, but he was also the only person to say it like it is. It was a good outing for Pat. This election may not be a done deal... with a potential split between Wheat and Wells, who knows what could possibly happen?
